For as long as I can remember, I’ve been plagued by dark circles under my eyes that no amount of concealer can cover up completely. Sure, a good portion of why I have dark circles is due to genetics, but lifestyle factors and topical treatments can still play a factor in improving the way they look, and in turn how I feel about the skin under my eyes.

Over the years, I have tried all kinds of serums, creams, and massage techniques to try and combat my ever-present under-eye bags, with varying degrees of success. I’m always open to trying something new in the hopes that, one day, I’ll find the perfect product I’ve been waiting for.

When I first heard about Dermalogica’s newest Biolumin-C Vitamin C Eye Serum, I was intrigued by its brightening and hydrating claims. Retailing for $98, it’s on the expensive side for an eye cream, but it’s been getting rave reviews since launching earlier this year, with 5,000 “loves” on Sephora’s website alone.

To put it to the test, I brought Dermalogica’s Biolumin-C Vitamin C Eye Serum with me for a few days in the sun and sand while on vacation in Mexico. I’ve since been using it at home for the past few weeks to see if it lives up to the hype, and have come up with a few conclusions.

What is it?

Rich in antioxidants and hydrating ingredients like chia seed oil and argent tree extract, this lightweight serum targets signs of aging like loss of firmness and elasticity, fine lines and wrinkles, and puffiness.

Vitamin C is the star ingredient, helping to protect delicate under-eye skin from free radical damage and fight environmental pollutants. It also features papain, an enzyme derived from papayas to slough away dull skin and add an extra dose of skin-brightening power.

Ideal for all skin types and tones, it’s an easy step to add to your skincare routine, if you’re looking to tackle tired-looking eyes.

What people are saying

Shoppers have been giving the Biolumin-C Vitamin C Eye Serum a big thumbs up, earning it a 4.6-star rating on both the Dermalogica and Sephora websites.

“The serum is lightweight and a little goes a long way. I have found my under eyes to look more hydrated and brighter. This is my first time using an eye serum and I definitely would be looking to purchase it again,” reads one review.

“I was a bit skeptical about it to begin with, but I've been using it for over a week, morning and night, and I can actually see a difference. My lines are lighter and under my eyes is brighter,” adds another.

Other shoppers have noticed slight changes after using the serum for a couple of weeks, but, because of the short time span, they’re still undecided on their verdict.

“I've been using Dermalogica Biolumin-C eye serum for approximately two weeks and noticed a slight reduction in dark circles around my eyes,” shared one reviewer. “In my opinion, using the serum alongside my other facial products for a longer period of time will definitely help me achieve the skincare I'm striving for.”

Did it work for me?

I’ve been using this serum twice daily for nearly three weeks, and it’s been a great addition to my skincare routine. I love that it quickly absorbs into the skin, which makes it the perfect base underneath my moisturizer and concealer, and the lightweight texture feels refreshing when applied onto the skin.

However, it still remains to be seen whether or not I’ve seen a dramatic improvement in the look of my dark circles. I have noticed that the puffiness under my eyes has decreased, but there’s still room for improvement when it comes to the dark circles.

I was hoping for more dramatic results, but any change for the better is certainly a win in my books. Best results are also typically found up to eight weeks after beginning a new product, so I plan on sticking with the Biolumin-C Vitamin C Eye Serum until then to see whether my skin continues to improve.
